[Montreal Port Authority] $130 Million Investment for the Development of the Contrecoeur Terminal

CONTRECOEUR, QC, February 17, 2025 – Quebec Premier François Legault, alongside Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility Geneviève Guilbault, has announced a $130 million investment to support the expansion of the Port of Montreal in Contrecoeur. This funding, allocated to the Montreal Port Authority (MPA), will finance the construction of a new container terminalincreasing the port’s current capacity by 60% and strengthening Quebec’s competitiveness in global markets.

This announcement was made in the presence of Minister of Families and Minister Responsible for the Montérégie Region, Suzanne Roy, and MPA President and CEO, Julie Gascon.

The expansion of the Port of Montreal in Contrecoeur will increase its current capacity by 60%, create 6,500 construction jobs, and generate 1,100 permanent jobsonce operational. This terminal will be a key economic asset for Quebec and will enhance trade with Europe and Asia.”

A Strategic Terminal for Economic Growth

The Contrecoeur terminal, set to open in 2029, will have an annual capacity of 1.15 million containers. Strategically located on the St. Lawrence River, it will be directly connected to the CN rail network and Highway 30, facilitating the movement of goods.
