[June 6] Imminent opening of the new international bridge between Edmundston and Madawaska, Maine
The new international bridge linking Edmundston, New Brunswick, to Madawaska, Maine, is set to open to traffic on June 6th, marking a significant advance in the enhancement of cross-border exchanges and infrastructure.

This eagerly anticipated construction replaces an aging bridge that no longer met current traffic capacity and safety standards.
However, weight restrictions will remain in effect until the completion of the remaining work on the infrastructure and at the Canadian border post, restricting access to vehicles over five tons. These additional measures aim to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic on this crucial passageway.
To facilitate the opening, a temporary closure of both bridges is planned from June 3rd to 6th, requiring the use of alternative border crossings at Clair or Saint-Léonard.
The project’s budget, nearing 100 million US dollars, reflects the strategic importance of this infrastructure for the region. By improving access and reducing travel times, the new bridge is set to boost local commerce and the economy, benefiting businesses and residents on both sides of the border.
The completion of this international bridge also symbolizes the effective collaboration between Canada and the United States, affirming their joint commitment to infrastructure development and strengthening bilateral relations.
