The Canadian government is reaffirming its commitment to strengthening border security and combating fentanyl trafficking. During a border exercise at the Emerson port of entry, the Minister of Public Safety, alongside the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Manitoba, federal and provincial partners, highlighted new measures to tackle cross-border crime.

This initiative follows the $1.3 billion border plan announced in December. Key actions include:

The appointment of a “Fentanyl Czar” to coordinate Canada’s response to the crisis;

The creation of a Canada-U.S. joint task force to combat organized crime, fentanyl trafficking, and money laundering.

The Premier of Manitoba and the Minister of Prairies Economic Development were also present to support these strengthened security efforts.
