Shortly after 5 p.m. on February 8, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) came across a transport truck and a passenger vehicle that had stopped in a live traffic lane on Highway 417 near Moodie Drive in Ottawa. The reason for the unexpected stop? The drivers had decided to take a coffee break, completely disregarding traffic safety.

OPP officers promptly issued multiple fines to both drivers under the Highway Traffic Act. Additionally, a commercial motor vehicle inspection revealed several violations. The transport company was also charged, and the truck was temporarily taken out of service.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to road safety regulations, especially for commercial vehicles, whose improper stops can lead to serious consequences.
