Deportation order issued for truck driver in 2018 Humboldt Broncos tragedy

Six years following the devastating bus crash involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team, Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, the truck driver responsible for the crash, has been slated for deportation from Canada.

From: Immigration and Refugee Board

During a virtual hearing by the Immigration and Refugee Board in Calgary on Friday morning, the decision to deport Sidhu was made. According to his legal representative, the outcome was expected, as the only requirements for deportation were to establish that Sidhu was not a Canadian citizen and had committed a grave offense.

A native of India and a permanent resident of Canada, Sidhu was previously sentenced to eight years in prison for dangerous driving in connection with the 2018 collision in Saskatchewan, which resulted in the deaths of 16 individuals and injuries to 13 others.

Although Sidhu was granted parole, his legal journey is far from over, his lawyer indicated. The process of his deportation could extend over several months or even years, as further legal proceedings are anticipated.
