Volvo Trucks integrates AI into its Blue Service Contract to optimize maintenance and improve vehicle uptime

Volvo Trucks North America recently unveiled major enhancements to its Blue Service Contract, a preventive maintenance program managed by its dealers, aimed at maximizing fleet efficiency and uptime. Powered by proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) models, the adaptive maintenance system adjusts service intervals based on various factors such as fuel consumption, idle time, and oil analyses. This new model replaces traditional static intervals with customized schedules, ensuring optimized maintenance at the right time.

During the announcement made at the annual American Trucking Associations (ATA) conference in Nashville, Tennessee, Volvo Trucks highlighted the benefits of this innovation. By consolidating services into fewer planned stops, the system improves vehicle uptime while reducing operating costs. If a vehicle has been used intensively, AI will recommend earlier maintenance, minimizing the risk of unplanned breakdowns.

The Blue Service Contract integrates connectivity solutions that monitor vehicles in near real-time. Thanks to this connectivity, dealers can proactively schedule maintenance visits, allowing customers to focus on business growth while knowing their trucks are being maintained efficiently.

Magnus Gustafson, Vice President of Connected Services at Volvo Trucks North America, stated: “Many fleets are over-maintaining their trucks, which can be costly. Applying AI to optimize maintenance intervals allows our customers to maximize the uptime of their Volvo trucks.”

In addition to adaptive maintenance, the Blue Service Contract now offers increased flexibility, allowing customers to choose specific services to include in their contract, such as fuel filter replacements, valve adjustments, or DOT inspections. This customization simplifies fleet management for operators.

Services can be paid via automatic withdrawal, through the FleetPreferred program, or as part of truck financing via Volvo Financial Services. This program is available for all Volvo trucks from the 2023 model year onward.
