Transport Truck Driver and Company Charged After Highway 11 Complaint

TEMAGAMI, Ont. – A transport truck has been pulled off the road following a police inspection on Highway 11, with both the driver and the Brampton-based trucking company facing multiple charges.

On January 27, 2025, at around 10:15 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Temagami responded to a complaint about a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) traveling on Highway 11. Officers located the truck and conducted a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) inspection, uncovering numerous violations under provincial laws.

Driver and Company Facing Charges

39-year-old truck driver from Brampton has been charged with:

Driving a CMV with a major defect(HTA)

Failing to enter a defect in the daily inspection report(HTA)

Failing to accurately complete the daily inspection report(HTA)

Defective odometer on a CMV(HTA)

Failing to comply with certificate conditions(TSSEA)

The Brampton-based trucking companyhas also been charged with:

Failing to ensure proper daily inspections(HTA)

Failing to ensure the daily inspection report was accurately completed(HTA)

Failing to meet performance standards(HTA)

Defective odometer on a CMV(HTA)

Failing to comply with certificate conditions(TSSEA)

Truck Pulled Off the Road

The transport truck has been placed out of service and cannot return to operation until necessary repairs are made, police say.

Second Incident in Two Days on Highway 11

This latest incident comes just a day after another safety violation was reported on the same highway.

On January 26, near Opasatika, a caller reported a transport truck with a dangerously wobbling rear wheel. James Bay OPP found the vehicle pulled over in Reesor Siding, where an inspection revealed severe blackening, misalignment of the trailer’s rear, and a wheel missing half of its lug nuts.

24-year-old driver from Winnipeg, Manitoba, has been charged with:

Operating an unsafe commercial motor vehicle

Driving a CMV with a major defect

Failing to accurately complete the daily inspection report

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on March 18 in Hearst.

Police Reminder to Commercial Vehicle Operators

The OPP urges commercial vehicle operators to conduct thorough daily inspections and promptly address any safety defects.

“Incidents involving wheel detachment or major vehicle defects pose serious risks to all road users,”said the OPP.
