I-80 Traffic Redirection Underway
Efforts to reroute I-80 traffic away from Green River and back onto the highway are ongoing. DeBernardi Construction has placed nearly 3,000 feet of barrier and expects to install an additional 2,000 feet by the end of the day. Meanwhile, S & L Industrial has installed traffic control measures, signage, and temporary infrastructure to facilitate head-to-head traffic flow. WYDOT expects the traffic shift to be completed by Thursday.
Additionally, WYDOT has begun the contractor solicitation process for removing debris and sootfrom the westbound tunnel, marking the first step toward full restoration of the structure.
“It is imperative that people stay away from the westbound tunnel for their safety,”Cameron emphasized. “Between the risk of falling debris and serious air quality concerns, the area is far too dangerous for anyone without the proper protective equipment and training. We do not want to see any additional injuries as a result of this tragic event.”
