Minister of Transport and Internal Trade Concludes a Productive Visit to Washington D.C.

OTTAWA, February 26, 2025 – The Honourable Anita Anand, Canada’s Minister of Transport and Internal Trade, has concluded a successful visit to Washington D.C., where she held a series of bilateral meetings with U.S. government officials. The discussions focused on strengthening Canada–U.S. relations and advancing shared priorities in transportation and trade.

Strategic Meetings with U.S. Officials

During her visit, Minister Anand met with her U.S. counterpart, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, to discuss transportation safety, integrated supply chains, and mutual economic benefits.

She also held meetings with key congressional figures, including:

•Troy Nehls, Chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Aviation Subcommittee

•Tammy Duckworth, Senior Member of the Aviation Safety, Operations, and Innovation Subcommittee

•Steve Cohen, Senior Member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Aviation Subcommittee

•Maria Cantwell, Senior Member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation

•Sam Graves, Chair of the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure

A major topic of discussion was the impact of tariffs on workers and businesses in both countries.

Commitment to Secure Trade and Transportation

Minister Anand also took the opportunity to meet with Canadian mission leaders in the U.S. and Mexico and participated in a fireside chat with Christopher Sands, Director of the Canada Institute at the Wilson Center.
