OTTAWA, February 26, 2025 – The Honourable Anita Anand, Canada’s Minister of Transport and Internal Trade, has concluded a successful visit to Washington D.C., where she held a series of bilateral meetings with U.S. government officials. The discussions focused on strengthening Canada–U.S. relations and advancing shared priorities in transportation and trade.

During her visit, Minister Anand met with her U.S. counterpart, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, to discuss transportation safety, integrated supply chains, and mutual economic benefits.

She also held meetings with key congressional figures, including:

Since March 2021, the group has focused on addressing systemic flaws in licensing, training, and enforcement. However, as Travis Tuttle, Director and co-founder of Truckers for Safer Highways, states, “The Ministry of Transportation’s enforcement division remains woefully understaffed and under-resourced, unable to properly oversee the increasing number of trucks on Ontario’s highways.”

In a statement this week, Tuttle expressed deep sadness and extended condolences to the families affected by these incidents. He emphasized that the numbers are not just statistics but represent real lives forever altered. “Survivors often face lifelong emotional, physical, and financial challenges, making it even harder for their families to move forward,” he said.

The organization remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for safer roads and a more accountable trucking industry. It calls for urgent changes to transform trucking from what feels like “a daily battle for survival” back into a profession centered on safety.
