[Arizona] Operation Southern Shield 2025: Results and Key Takeaways

During the five-day special enforcement initiative known as Operation Southern Shield, the Arizona Commercial Vehicle Safety Partnership (ACVSP), along with its partners, conducted 910 commercial vehicle inspections, uncovering 2,614 driver-vehicle examination report violations.

Among the findings, 146 vehicles and 92 drivers were placed out of service due to critical safety violations. Given that fatigue, inattention, and distracted driving are among the leading causes of commercial vehicle collisions, ACVSP personnel focused on driver hours of service, qualifications, and cell phone use as part of their enforcement efforts.

Additionally, restraint usage was another key focus, with 25 violations recorded.

Multi-Agency Collaboration for Road Safety

This year’s operation brought together more than 80 commercial vehicle enforcement inspectorsfrom:

•Pinal County Sheriff’s Office

•Pima County Sheriff’s Office

•Marana Police Department

•Goodyear Police Department

The ACVSP is composed of troopers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau and officers from the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Enforcement and Compliance Division.
