Major North American CMV Driver blitz starts sunday (july 7)

Major North American CMV Driver blitz starts sunday (july 7)

The next Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) enforcement blitz is just days away. Here’s what truckers need to know.

The annual CVSA Operation Safe Driver Week enforcement effort will take place from July 7 to July 13, 2024, across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.

During the week-long blitz, expect to see increased patrols targeting both commercial vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers. Officers will be on the lookout for dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, aggressive driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Violators will be pulled over by law enforcement and will receive warnings or tickets.

Screenshot

The focus area for Operation Safe Driver Week 2024 will be reckless, careless, or dangerous driving. This is defined as operating a vehicle without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other motorists or people on the road.

During last year’s Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement conducted 11,448 commercial vehicle traffic stops. This resulted in 4,592 warnings and 2,634 tickets/citations being issued to commercial motor vehicle drivers.

Truckers should also keep in mind that Brake Safety Week is on the horizon. The annual brake blitz is scheduled for August 25 to August 31, 2024. During Brake Safety Week, commercial motor vehicle inspectors conduct brake system inspections (primarily Level IV Inspections) on large trucks and buses throughout North America to identify brake-system violations.

As these enforcement initiatives approach, it is crucial for all drivers to adhere to safety regulations and maintain their vehicles to avoid penalties and ensure the safety of everyone on the road.
