Washington D.C., February 6, 2025 – The Honourable Bill Blair, Minister of National Defence, and The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, have completed a successful visit to Washington D.C., where they engaged in strategic discussions with industry leaders and key members of Congress.






Strengthening Defence and Aerospace Cooperation
During their visit, the ministers met with defence and aerospace industry leaders to enhance strategic collaboration between Canada and the United States. These discussions focused on optimizing supply chains and industrial capabilities to ensure North America’s defence and security while driving economic growth in both nations.
Commitment to NORAD Modernization and Continental Security
Minister Blair and Minister Champagne also held discussions with key Congressional members, reinforcing the importance of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and Canada’s investments in continental defence and Arctic security.
As outlined in the Our North, Strong and Free defence policy, Canada is committed to modernizing its defence capabilities with an $8.1 billion investment over five years and $73 billion over 20 years. This includes $38 billion for NORAD modernization, representing Canada’s most significant investment in NORAD in a generation.
