
Cargo Theft in North America Sees Record Surge in 2024

Cargo theft has reached critical levels in 2024. According to Overhaul’s Annual Cargo Theft Report, the United States recorded 2,217 thefts, reflecting a 49% increase from 2023. The average stolen cargo value also rose by 17%.
In Canada, Ontario remains the most affected province, accounting for 85% of all recorded thefts. Full Truckload Theft continues to be the most common method, making up 64% of total incidents. Electronics remained the top targeted product category, comprising 24% of thefts in the U.S. and 31% in Canada.
The report also provides an in-depth analysis of rail and train yard thefts in the U.S., along with recommendations on how to enhance cargo security.
